How to protect your instagram account from getting hacked

How to protect your instagram account from getting hackedOver the past 6 months I have heard lots of instances where somone’s personal or business Instagram account has been hacked with the owner losing control of it.

To help safeguard the account you use for marketing your business here are 4 things to consider…

1. Never click on a link in an email / Whatsapp / Messenger message that asks you to login to your Instagram. Sometimes the message could be from a friend who has been hacked and the friend is asking you to help him or her.
The page you will be taken to is not an Instagram page and the hacker now has your logins. Always just open the Instagram app on your phone rather than click on a Link

2. Ensure you activate two factor authentication: This means that if someone tries to login as you with your logins a message will be sent to your phone providing a code. Unless the hacker has your phone they won’t be able to login.

Instagram has recently changed the layout of the settings area so to get to this …

1. Tap on the circle bottom right to go to your profile

2. Tap the menu top right

3. Tap on Accounts Center

4. Tap Password and security

5. Tap two factor authentication.

6. Choose your Instagram account.

It will then tell if you if it is already setup and if it isn’t you can set it up.

3. Review the devices that have recently logged into your account and logout of any old devices or one’s you do not recognise.

Go to account centre following the directions above

Tap Password and security

Tap where you are logged in

Tap your Instagram account

Review all the devices you are logged in on. Tap on any one of hem and you can logout on that device

4. Review the sites and apps that you have allowed access your account. Over time you might have given 3rd party tools access to your account. If they have a security breach your account could get compromised. You should review and remove access for any that you feel no longer need it.

1. Tap on the circle bottom right to go to your profile

2. Tap the menu top right

3. Scroll down and tap Websiite permissions

4. Tap Apps and websites

Then review the websites and remove the ones you want.

Hope that helps
